"Slow sand filter sand" is the filtration sand used in slow sand filtration ponds. The slow sand filtration method is a historic filtration technique adopted when modern water supply systems began in London in the early 19th century, producing high-quality drinking water at a slow filtration rate of 4 to 5 meters per day. The effective diameter, which indicates the particle size, is specified to be between 0.30 and 0.45 mm, and the uniformity coefficient, which indicates the consistency of the particles, must be 2.0 or less according to the Japan Water Works Association standards.
